Rolling out of bed at quarter after 6 is the bane of my existence. So much so that I rarely get up when my alarm goes off. Instead, I toss and turn, hit snooze a few more times, and then begrudgingly whip the covers off to face the cold morning air. The first thing I’m greeted with is darkness and that just instantly makes me want to crawl back into bed for a nice, long, hibernation.
This mostly happens during the winter months when there isn’t much sun to begin with, but this also applies to rainy days in spring and summer. Through the many years of school and now work that I’ve dealt with this I’ve picked up a few habits that help me get the day started. Just as a disclaimer, these tips work for me and may not be the best out there, but they do the trick from time to time.
GET UP AS SOON AS YOUR ALARM RINGS
The worst thing I do is hit snooze 2 or three times more than I should. This just makes me more tired and more comfortable not waking up when I need to. A new resolution of mine is to hop out of bed quickly or else I’ll somehow manage to convince myself to sink back into my pillows.
SPALSH YOUR FACE WITH COLD WATER
Probably just as effective as a swift slap in the face.
DRINK A GLASS OF WATER
This fills me up to avoid the morning stomach grumbles, but also gives me a boost of energy after a long slumber. This is also a great way to quickly get in 1 of the 8 glasses of water we need a day.
GRAB A COFFEE
Coffee is a passion of mine. I truly can’t go a day without it, not in a scary way, but in an artistic way. There’s something so great about it that it’s hard to put into words without sounding a bit crazy. Regardless, coffee is the best way to get a boost while still staying toasty on a cold day.
SHOWER (IF YOU HAVE TIME)
I never give myself enough time for this, but if I did I’m sure it would work wonders.
GET DRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
I’m notorious for dilly-dallying all morning until the last possible minute. I’ve noticed that if I get dressed quickly I’ll feel ready for the day and not so lethargic as I sip my coffee and watch YouTube videos.
