Much like my tendency to stick to one piece of clothing for a while, so too is my daily makeup routine. I never stray too far away from the usual products; however, every now and then I’ll throw in something new just to keep things interesting. Recently, I’ve stuck to four main products (outside of my skin care) that I carry around with me whenever I stay over at my boyfriend’s house or have a long day ahead.
MAYBELLINE FIT ME CONCEALER – ‘LIGHT’
The first thing I do when prepping for my make up is dab on a bit of concealer on the many blemishes I can spot that morning. Perhaps it’s too much chocolate or not enough water; whatever the case, this concealer has been working perfectly for covering them up completely. I was previously using one shade darker (‘Sand’), but eventually realized that it was just too yellow for my skin tone. So far, the light shade has been working wonderfully and I expect to be purchasing it for months to come.
MAC MINERALIZE SKIN FINISH – ‘MEDIUM’
As soon as I finish concealing all the spots, I move on to the powder foundation I’ve loved for the past few years. This one provides light to medium coverage, which is exactly right for my skin and the natural look I aim for. There’s something about liquid foundation on a daily basis that intimidates me and makes me feel lethargic. This powder seems to be endless because I’ve been using the same one for a year an a half now and I still have some left before moving on to a brand new one.
MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL – ‘BLACK’
This is currently my favourite drug store mascara and I can definitively say that it does what I would ideally want a mascara to do—darken, lengthen, thicken. It’s not quite as good as my Too Face ‘Better Than Sex’ mascara, but for the price it does the job. I’ve also read that there is a newer version with a plumping agent for the lashes, which I might try the next time I’m in Shoppers.
MAC MINERALIZE SKIN FINISH – ‘SOFT & GENTLE’
This is the newest addition to my makeup family and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve wanted to try out a highlighter for a while now, but didn’t know how I felt about the look. Would I look too done up on a daily basis with glitter on my face? Would it look like I was trying too hard to emulate the Kardashians just going out to lunch? On the contrary, it makes my skin look a lot more natural and healthy, creating a soft peachy glow that I often mistake for a dewy consistency. I’ve never liked wet makeup, so this is a great alternative for when I want that bright and natural look.
Most of the time I will also keep a sheer lipstick or tinted balm in my purse, but the colours change day to day. Recently, I’ve been very into the soft, sheer plum colours that still mimic my natural lip shade, but with a bit of a grungier look.
