One of the hardest things to accomplish now that the sun rises later is getting a good night’s sleep. Oh, how I reminisce about the days of university when I could go two or three days without any AM classes and could have the entire morning to recovering from hangover’s or doing some enjoyable reading. With a full-time and part time job, some sacrifices have been made and sadly it is usually my sleep. However, when I do finally make it into bed, I’ve found it more difficult actually getting a sleep deep enough that I feel replenished by the morning. So, I’ve begun putting a few things into practice that might help me feel better and brighter when crawling out of bed to begin a long day.
READ // Nothing makes me fall asleep faster than giving my eyes a bit of a work out. Paired with some dim lighting and I’m out before I finish a chapter.
WORK OUT // This is something I have been slacking on, but it’s undeniable how much more exhausted I feel at the end of the day if I’ve worked out earlier. Almost as soon as my head hits the pillow the pleasure of sleep and replenishment overcomes me.
WARM TEA/MILK // There is something about a warm beverage in the late evening that makes me drowsy. Maybe it’s the cozy feeling of wrapping your hands around something warm or the reminiscent thoughts of being a kid again.
GOOD PILLOWS // I am definitely over due for a new set of pillows and I can already notice it in my lack of sleep and the difficulty I have actually falling asleep at night. For those of you living in Canada, The Bay usually has a sale of Ralph Lauren pillows for much cheaper than they usually are. I’ll be popping by there soon, preferably before winter hits and TTC access with two giant pillows is much harder and more embarrassing.
