There is something satisfying of being able to just roll out of bed, wash your face and begin your day. Unfortunately, I never feel as well-prepared or looking my best without some extra fluffing when it comes to my face, and I think I can speak for many women my age. I’m beginning to find it strange that in my mid-twenties I am still plagued with onsets of acne. Shouldn’t I be finished at this point?! It seems that puberty hit me 13 years ago as a devastating tsunami and my face is still managing the after-effects of it.
I’d like to say that my face controls the acne naturally through healthy eating and a lot of hydration throughout the day, but I’d be lying to myself. I have gone through so many skin treatments since I was 11 and it seems to be the only way to clear my skin, even if temporarily.
So, because waking up and running out the door has never been an option for me, I’ve come across a few products that help in making me feel a bit more put-together and polished with as little effort as possible in the early mornings before work.
TOO FACED COCO POWDER FOUNDATION // For the longest time I had been using MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish powder, but I’d begun to feel like it wasn’t quite doing the job and perhaps was starting to look a bit yellow on my skin. So, I popped into Sephora with the researched knowledge that I wanted to try the Too Faced powder because the coco is said to be a detoxifying ingredient. Surprisingly, I had to go down a shade and to this day it perfectly smoothes out my skin with the delicious sent of chocolate to follow. The only qualm I have with it is the sponge applicator it comes with; it’s not the best for applying it to your entire face as it tends to not spread evenly, but it is perfect for doing quick touchups or trying to blank out that annoying zit without concealer.
ZOEVA POWDER BRUSH // To follow up the Too Faced powder, I’ve found that the easiest way to apply the product is with a brush. That’s not to say it is too thick to be applied any other way, on the contrary, it is light enough that it will meld into your skin as soon as it touches it, not leaving much hope to spread it easily. As per the recommendation of various other beauty bloggers, I looked into the Zoeva brush sets and am very impressed with the softness of the bristles; something I always worry about when it comes to breakouts.
MAYBELINE LASH SENSATIONAL MASCARA // This was a recent discovery that I was a bit weary about. My favourite mascara to date is the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, but it runs a bit pricey and I don’t really want to waste it for messy early morning applications. The best thing about that mascara is the hourglass shaped brush, which Lash Sensational does not have. It’s plastic bristles and the spoon curve didn’t look like it would do much for my thin lashes. However, I’ve noticed that with about 2 coats it covers them nicely and because of the shape of the wand, I don’t always need to use an eyelash curler—perfect for when I’m running out the door or if I haven’t had time to apply it at home.
SUGAR FRESH LIP TREATMENT // This is another small product that is on the pricey side, but it works so well and gives that perfect tint that it would be hard getting rid of it completely from my routine. I use the colour Rose and it is perfect for my skin tone and makes it look like I’m wearing something much more intense than a lip balm. It also goes on smoothly enough that your lips don’t feel like they are sticking together throughout the day.
