For those of us obsessed with Netflix and sitting in bed with a cup of warm tea. I’ve compiled a few recommendations of Netflix series and movies that are currently my favourites.
COSMOS: A SPACE TIME ODYSSEY // If you’re a semi-nerd like I am then you’ll enjoy the terrifying science in Neil deGrasse Tyson’s show about the beginning of everything. No stone is left unturned (literally) when he explains the history and science behind all of life’s amazing discoveries in a way that is easy for us non-scientists to understand. Although, you might experience some sleepless nights worrying about the fate of humanity.
BILL CUNNINGHAM // I stumbled upon this documentary on Netflix, probably looking for something fashion related as it is now fall. This movie simply follows the life of famous New York street photographer Bill Cunningham and his passion for fashion in the real world, worn by real people. He exhibits a desire for his art without the money that would normally follow.
WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER // I’ve jumped on the bandwagon and am so glad I did. First, I watched the movie, not really knowing what to expect from an early 2000’s film, and ridiculousness ensued. I am now watching the Netflix series and can’t get enough. It is right up my alley with it’s wacky humour and improbable plot points, also with all the famous and funny faces we all love.
IRIS // Another fashion documentary suggested on Netflix as a new release, Iris follows the life of Iris Apfel, known for her crazy fashion sense and notoriety in the fashion world. It explains that she sees clothing as fun and experimental as opposed to serious like many in the industry do. And at 90 years old, she is still scouring the streets for new inspiration and cheap articles of clothing to add to her extensive collection.
HOUSE OF DVF // Once again, another fashion show, but this one is in a genre that I hold near and dear to my heart—reality TV. Yes, I am one of those people and am proud of it! Having been obsessed with the first season, I was elated to turn on the TV this morning and see the first episode of season 2 playing. It’s almost like the stars were aligned. House of DVF follows Diane Von Furstenburg’s search for a new brand ambassador among a group of young women trying to make it in the fashion industry. Every episode is a new challenge or them to show their sense of creativity and style as well as their true colours among the people they will be working with if they win. If you’re as obsessed as I am with reality TV and (somewhat) with fashion, then I would recommend this show, if only for Diane’s humours personality.
