Unlike most women my age, I’ve only gotten into the make up the past year or two and steadily increasing my collection. The hardest thing for me about having makeup habits is becoming too dependent on these layers of power and cream to define who I am and create a new ideal of myself that cannot be maintained on a daily basis. Having said that, like many other women I have discovered the fun and creativity that comes along with makeup and figuring out a routine that makes you feel your best. It’s almost sad to think that men don’t have something as similar themselves.
Now, because I work in an office and have the luxury of a sedative life (for the most part) I can dabble in a daily makeup routine that won’t become an inconvenience throughout a long day. An important factor to any routine, I‘ve learned, is a good, if not decent, base. For the past year or so I have been using MAC’s Mineralize Skin Finish powder seeing as I cannot stand the feeling of a heavy liquid foundation on my face or the look of dewing skin. To add a bit of life to my face I usually dust on some MAC Lovecloud powder blush—it’s amazing the difference a bit of pink on the cheeks makes for the complexion.
As for the eyes, I try to keep it simple and usually just reach for Too Faced Better Than Sec mascara to open my eyes in the morning and make them look more away. However, I have also been keeping MAC Naked Lunch eye shadow with me to add some sparkle on these dreary fall days we’ve been having in Toronto.
The lips are probably the easiest for my daily routine. I usually reach for Sugar Fresh lip treatment in the Rose colour. It gives my lips a slightly glossy look and a bit of colour without being too overpowering. It’s also easy to apply when on the go or sitting at my desk without fear of making a mess on my face.
