I decided to quickly peruse my room for post inspiration and came across my somewhat messy dresser top. Through the months I’ve slowly begun accumulating jewelry, scents, makeup and hair products and apparently that’s where I think is sufficient to keep them all. One thing that stood out to me was my abundance of lip products. Being pretty simplistic when it comes to makeup, my go-to looks usually involve powder, blush, mascara and something on the lips—that’s the easiest feature to play up and switch around throughout the day (if you’re indecisive like me).
Along with lipsticks, lip balms, lip serums, and lips glosses I also have many lip stains primarily from Revlon’s quite popular collections. I remember when I purchased my first lip stain; it felt like all my teen problems had been solved. A lipstick that never wears off? Your lips would permanently (or for the day) look like you had eaten a foot long cherry freezie, and who doesn’t want that? My amazement with these products clearly hasn’t worn off.
I call these the shineys because they leave your lips with a soft, glossy look to them before they settle into the lips and make it look like you were just born with that shade of fuscia. Number 025 has always been my go-to and I know that soon I’ll have to pick up another one. They go on easily so you don’t really have to look in a mirror when applying them and you don’t have to worry about any fading throughout the day unless you wipe your lips completely. Not much else to say. My favourites.
These ones are just as great and the colours wear just as well, but they are a lot harder to apply without a mirror. Because they are so velvety and smooth it’s incredibly easy to slip over the line of your lips and leave smudging that settles and stains the wrong places. I’ve also noticed that they tend to dry out the lips the longer they are on, but applying a bit of lip balm works well to moisten it up without removing the colour. Be weary with these, but enjoy the amazing shades, especially for the winter months.
The Nars lip pencils are more like the satin stains discussed above, but I decided to lump them in with MAC because they are all technically “pencils” that leave the lips stained. Half red by MAC is gorgeous. Perfect for that grunge look or just a glam yet edgy evening look. But…it will feel like you crossed the Sahara by the end of the night. My trick for applying any sort of pencils to the lips is to put on lip balm first (just a thin layer) and then go over it with the pencil. This allows for an easier glide and gives you a few hours of moist lips.
Any favourites you have?
