If you know me at all, you’d know that I’m obsessed with true crime. This might be the biggest understatement because of how absorbed I have become in the very big online community of people like myself who are fascinated by the sad, gruesome, and overall interesting tales of real horror, not the stuff you see in movies. One term for this would be a “murderino”, coined by the ladies on the first podcast in today’s list. I like this term because it makes it seem less intimidating and weird than many people (i.e. My boyfriend) might think.
It’s hard to explain why I like this genre so much, but one reason might be that my mild, yet active, anxiety is dealt with better by learning, living through, and somewhat understanding these very scary scenarios. It pushes my mind to think about the “what if?” aspect of these stories that very often happen to unsuspecting women like myself. I also feel somewhat comforted realizing that I might be able to learn from some of these mistakes and defend myself if necessary.
All in all, I know there are many people out there like me, so I decided to compile a small list of my favourite true crime podcasts and documentaries. I could definitely make a longer one, but I thought we would start slow and work our way there. Seeing as my Netflix list is jam packed with other documentaries, I know I’ll be doing another post like this in the near future.
1) MY FAVOURITE MURDER (Podcast)
2) CASEFILE (Podcast)
3) MAKING A MURDERER
4) WHO TOOK JOHNNY
5) FORENSIC FILES
6) PARTNERS IN CRIME
Are you as into this genre as I am?
